CNIT (National, Inter-University Consortium for Telecommunications) is a non-profit consortium of 37 public Italian universities to conduct research, innovation, and education/training in the field of Information and Communication Technology. The organization operates 43 Research Units and 5 National Laboratories. Role Description

This is a full-time hybrid role for a Software Engineer at CNIT’s Photonic Networks & Technologies Laboratory located in Pisa, Italy.

Remote work is also acceptable.

As a Software Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing software within the SONiC Operating System, mainly related to the support of optical trasnceivers and SDK APIs. You will be responsible for interacting with System Vendors and Network Operators, creating and maintaining technical documentation, and testing the software to ensure its proper functioning.

Qualifications

  • Computer Science and Software Development skills
  • Experience on SONiC and CMIS/C-CMIS is ideal
  • Solid experience with Linux and C Language is mandatory
  • Experience with optical networking, NETCONF/gNMI/gRPC amd YANG is an extremely valuable plus
  • Experience with version control (e.g. Git) and software testing
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Familiarity with databases and agile development methodologies is a plus
